(MES) - In response to an invitation to participate in Magnolia's month-long Celebration of Words, highly skilled author, illustrator, and science teacher, Taylor Morrison, who trained at the Rhode Island School of Design, gave a personalized video message to Magnolia students. After reading his book, Civil War Artist, Magnolia fifth graders viewed Mr. Morrison's video message. In this message, Mr. Morrison showed students artifacts such as Turkish boxwood, newspapers from the 1800s, and an electrotype plate used in the research for his book. Finally, students learned facts about the process of electrotyping, valuable in the printing of newspapers in the past.  After hearing his message, Magnolia fifth graders wrote letters to Mr. Morrison and to the students in his science classes at 5 Oaks Middle School in Oregon. Magnolia students look forward to reading the responses in the days to come.
