Rising Junior Selected to Join National Science Foundation's Legacy Program
May 20, 2021
(HTHS) - Jia Jones, a rising Junior, has been selected to be a part of this year’s LEGACY program. This program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to provide preparatory experiences for African American young women who are enrolled in the AP (Advanced Placement) Computer Science Principles course. She will participate in two, week-long virtual workshops this summer.
Daily activities will include structured sessions, team work, project development, mentoring, and cultural activities. She will also continue to receive mentoring through the academic year as she completes the AP CSP course. Students who complete all program activities will also receive a stipend. Acceptance to this program speaks to Jia's accomplishments - as this program received nearly twice the number of applicants this year over last year.
