Mrs. Jennifer Lauren Hunt
Mrs. Jennifer Lauren Hunt is a passionate educator, born and raised in the beautiful Golden Isles, Saint Simons Island, Georgia. She is an honored graduate of Valdosta State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree of Early Childhood Education (2007), a Master’s Degree of Early Childhood Education (2009), a Minor of English as a Second Language (2009), and a Specialist’s Degree of Curriculum and Instuction (2011).
Jennifer began her teaching career at S.L. Mason Elementary, a Title 1 School, Valdosta, Georgia, 2007 - 2012, where she taught third and fourth grade students. During this time she served as a lead member of the school’s Differentiation Team, as well as a lead member of the school’s Positive Behavior Support Team. Additionally, she served as a key coordinator for the district’s Community Partners in Education committee and was recognized as CPIE Coordinator of the Year, 2010.
After moving to Alabama in 2012, Jennifer continued her teaching career at Brookwood Forest Elementary, Mountain Brook, Alabama, 2012 - 2019, where she taught third and first grade students. During this time she served as a lead member of the school’s Culture and Climate Committee, as well as a lead member of the district’s Project Lead the Way Team. Additionally, she completed professional development training from Teachers College, a homegrown institute sponsored by the district (2012), as well as served as one of two host classrooms for Mike Anderson, renowned education consultant and author of Learning to Choose, Choosing to Learn: The Key to Student Motivation and Achievement.
In 2019, Jennifer and her family moved to their present home in Trussville, and she began teaching at Paine Elementary, Trussville, Alabama, 2019 - present. She currently serves as a second grade Literacy teacher and is honored to teach in her beloved community.
While teaching for the past 15 years, Jennifer has actively and consistently participated in many professional development opportunities, including in-service training from distinguished education influencers and keynote speakers, Sir Ken Robinson, Lucy Calkins, Jennifer Seravallo, and Kristine Mraz, as well as attended the 50th Anniversary Conference of The Alabama Literacy Association.
Likewise, in 2021, Jennifer completed her LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) Master Certification, professional learning that provides educators and administrators with deep knowledge to be literacy and language experts in the science of teaching reading. Developed by renowned literacy experts Dr. Louisa Moats, Dr. Carol Tolman, and Dr. Lucy Hart Paulson, LETRS teaches the skills needed to master the fundamentals of reading instruction—phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and language.
When Jennifer was just 5 years old, a family-friend and teacher, Mrs. Darby Hanson, invited Jennifer to come to her kindergarten classroom during the summer months while she worked. Jennifer vividly remembers walking into her classroom and being in awe of the countless books, art supplies, learning centers, and more. “It was at that moment that God placed the call in my heart to be a teacher,” she says.
When she is not in the classroom, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family- husband, Jonathan, and their 4 children, Rose Grace (5 years), Emelia Ray (3 years), and Davis Robert (2 year), and Henry Carpnter (6 months), as well as gardening, reading, journaling, traveling, and listening to music. She and her family attend Gateway Community Church. Jennifer is also a Level 1 certified Yoga Teacher, Yoga Alliance, as well as a certified scuba diver.
Jennifer is grateful for the tremendous love and support from her family, friends, fellow colleagues, her students and their families, as well as the teachers who inspired, encouraged, and equipped her along the way.
