iCan Girls in Engineering
-
Girls in Engineering is a mentoring program for 8th grade girls sponsored by Alabama Power. The participants are selected based on their achievement in math and science, as well as involvement in the HTMS engineering program. Girls in Engineering typically meet five times during the year, both on campus and off, to explore various disciplines of engineering and to build relationships with female engineers from Alabama Power.
Girls in Engineering is an opportunity for girls to learn more about the different types of engineering that are used in the world and to see examples of products produced by engineers. The girls selected go on field trips to participate in and create items using real world engineering applications. They see types of engineering jobs at Alabama Power headquarters and get to visit a college engineering program. It is a great opportunity for girls to see a variety of engineering jobs and what they may want to do in their future.
